FALL ’09 MALE MODELS WATCH

Article excerpted from rocketrend.wordpress.com

The menswear shows are coming up really soon (for schedules: click here for Milan’s, and here for Paris), I have been looking through the show cards/packages. Some new faces seem very promising, I am waiting to see who will be the break-out star. For the past year, there has been this mini hype for male models— the pale, heavily tattooed-with -multiple-piercing types. Maybe it is because of Hedi Slimane (well who wouldn’t get HUGE after landing a Vogue Homme cover), but the likes of Josh Beech and Ash Stymest have became really major.

As for the last season, the few boys who stood out from the runways for me are…

the red head Lasse Pedersen, noticed him in Burberry. He can totally rock that brow-less look which is so ‘in’ for the female counterpart these days.

He has since been featured in editorials in Dazed & Confused and Another Man.

Dennis Johnson opened and closed Calvin Klein last season but what totally blew me away was his Interview Nov 08′ editorial with Lara Stone— too fierce for words— it shows a rather different side of him apart from his cold looks.

And the current Burberry ‘it’ boy Jeremy Young is not too bad either, there is only one editorial of him so far but judging from the Burberry Black Label campaign, he seems really promising. His eyes are gorgeous.

Not forgetting about diversity,Ty Ogunkoya, one of the two black models who walked Versace last season, is definitely one to watch. His strong features look amazing in print, simply check out that Benetton ad.

My current favourite male model is Jonas Kesseler, his face is really really unique for a male model. Jonas is not really new though – he’s been around since Fall ’07, but he walked big shows like Prada, Jil Sander for Spring ’09 and starred in the D&G cruise campaign.

The Prada opener, Maxime Hardy is, right now, pretty lacking in print work.
