Get the Celeb Look: Chic Sleeves

According to celebrity trendsetters, you no longer have the right to bare arms—lately stars are putting a twist on the ubiquitous summer LWD with chic long sleeves. Their looks may be covered up, but they’re certainly not stuffy. In fact, with the figure-hugging cuts, flirty flared skirts and flashy embellishments these celebs are showing off, the long-sleeved little white dress is sure to be your easiest way to chic this season.

It was fitting that Maggie Gyllenhaal chose a classic shape at Prada’s Great Gatsby celebration, but instead of channeling the Twenties, she wore a Sixties-inspired shift by the designer with ruffled accents at the neck and sleeves. This light and breezy silhouette is perfect for the sticky summer. At the same event, Isla Fisher complemented her fair tones in another Prada look. The just-barely-pink long sleeved dress was minimal perfection, with an A-line skirt that oozed femininity. Brit Marling was all draping and ruffles at the premiere of The East. Her ethereal dress featured bell sleeves and a wrap skirt with silvery undertones.

Nicole Scherzinger’s look at the From Slavery to Freedom event is one that anyone can pull off. A figure-skimming sleeved dress in white or cream can take you from the office to a summer night out. Emma Watson arrived at Cannes Film Festival in style, wearing a sporty white A.L.C. skater dress. Contrast your sleeved LWD with dark ankle boots like Watson, or go for a white-hot look with white pumps like Nicole Richie at the AOL 2013 Digital NewFront. Embellishment and strong shoulders made her Saint Laurent frock stand out from the crowd.
