Kate Moss has been working hard to make the slip a trend since she was heroin-chic in the 90s, and her work is really starting to pay off. These days she’s certainly not the only one bringing boudoir fashion onto the red carpet via slinky, sexy slip dresses. We’re looking to these celebrity trendsetters to show us how to give our tired old dresses the slip.
Victoria Beckham has been taking a break from wearing her own designs to dress up in this lacy Louis Vuitton number—which she’s been spotted in twice, including at Wimbledon where she combined the lingerie-inspired style with a pair of oversized sunglasses, pumps, and a whole lot of paparazzi. Hanging-on-by-a-thread spaghetti straps add a certain edginess to a slip dress, like the shimmering gold Marc Jacobs one which Nicole Richie wore to the CFDA Gala. A slip dress can also be very delicate and feminine, as Rooney Mara showed at Cannes in a minimal peach slip by Calvin Klein. Amy Adams worked a more form-fitted strappy style in L’Wren Scott at the Guy’s Choice Awards. The straight-across neckline and midi length gave her frosted plum dress a 90s throwback feel. And of course, Kate Moss gave her own super-luxe touch to the same mini which Victoria Beckham loves with a fur coat dripping off her shoulders.
