Watch: Gorgeous Gowns, Stunning Celebs and Runway Drama at The Red Dress Collection Fashion Show 2014

The Scene: Last night, Lincoln Center hosted the Go Red For Women®/The Heart Truth® Red Dress Collection. The annual runway show, which raises awareness for heart disease, is always a Fashion Week standout thanks to its lively, boisterous energy. Cast with celebrities, the Red Dress Collection show is known to be a star-studded event; this season the front row included famous faces like Tracy Anderson, Star Jones and J. Alexander. (Also: Jared the Subway guy — the sandwich chain sponsored the show, together with Macy’s.)

The Inspiration: Top designers created unique versions of the iconic red dress, which symbolizes the fight against heart disease:  Alice + Olivia, Austin Scarlett, Badgely Mischka, BCBG, Black Halo Eve, Carmen Marc Valvo, Catherine Malendrino, Carolina Herrera, Cynthia Rowley, Dennis Basso, Donna Karan, Marchesa, Mark Zunio, Mathieu Mirano, Michael Costello, Nicole Miller, Rachel Roy, Roberto Cavalli, Vivienne Westwood and Zac Posen. Three dresses created by fashion incubator designers based in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco housed at Macy’s (Granaté Prêt, LAGI NADEAU, Sarah Liller San Francisco) were also featured in the show.

The Look: Dresses were designed with the real woman in mind. Standouts were Taryn Manning in Carmen Marc Valvo (it had an open back and figure-flattering black leather panelling), Sasha Cohen in a red velvet gown by Marc Bouwer, Anna SophiaRobb in Alice + Olivia and Ireland Baldwin, who made her runway debut in Donna Karan. And of course we’d be remiss not to mention Joan Jett, who looked killer in a Catherine Malandrino jumpsuit.

The Accessories: Not to be flip, but the true accessories standout of the evening was a pair of crutches belonging to Lindsey Vonn. The Olympian walked the length of the runway with the help of crutches. When she reached the end, Vonn lifted them over her head triumphantly, to roaring applause.

The Beauty: Glamorous eveningwear-appropriate beauty looks reigned supreme. The lovely Colbie Caillat distinguished herself from the parade of ultra-sleek updos and shiny curls by wearing her hair loose with natural, unfussy beachy waves.

The Takeaway: Gorgeous gowns, beautiful cast, worthy cause, catchy pop soundtrack, playful energy — one of the most festive, emotional shows we can expect to see all fashion week.
