With contrasting hem details like sheer panels and ruffled edges setting their looks apart, stars can no longer be hemmed in by convention. Click through for our round-up of Sarah Hyland, Kate Mara, Amber Le Bon and other stars working the contrasting hem trend.
Kiernan Shipka in Christian Dior
The sheer trend doesn’t seem to be disappearing, but it has migrated down to the hemline, as Kiernan Shipka showed off at the Vanity Fair and Fiat Young Hollywood party. Her cream-colored Christian Dior shift featured a graphic shoe print and a translucent overlay that extended the hem to midi-length.

Lily Allen in House of Holland
Lily Allen also worked the sheer hem trend when she appeared at the BRIT Awards in a sequined gradation dress by House of Holland that faded into a black mesh hem.
Kate Mara in J. Mendel
Kate Mara’s brocade J. Mendel sheath at the Her premiere also made use of a colorblocked swatch at the hem which added a note of freshness and coordinated with the actress’ accessories.
Amber Le Bon in Peter Pilotto
At the Creative London party during London Fashion Week, Amber Le Bon showed off another sheer hem. Her eye-catching Peter Pilotto dress was given a bit more flair with a colorblocked chiffon hem in a high-low cut.

Sarah Hyland looked sweet in fuchsia at the Sydney premiere of Vampire Academy. The frothy layer of ruffles at the bottom of her Temperley London dress made the look fun and youthful.
Bridget Moynahan in Lela Rose
The lace yolk and shoulders of Bridget Moynahan’s black Lela Rose dress at the Help USA Tribute Awards dinner was echoed in the touch of lace at the hem, balancing the sexy look without showing too much skin.

Jane Krakowski in Victoria Beckham
Jane Krakowski’s V-neck Victoria Beckham dress at the Roundabout Spring Gala might have fallen flat if not for the peekaboo effect created by the contrasting white layer of pleats emerging from the asymmetrical hem.

Kristen Bell in Michael Kors
The same could be said of the Michael Kors dress that Kristen Bell wore for her appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. A double row of oversized grommets played with the cut-out trend and gave the basic black number an appealing edge.
