While it may be the middle of summer, that hasn’t stopped certain celebs from rocking fall fabrics and hues. From velvet to leather, several stars are verging on creating a mini trend by ignoring the hot weather in favor of steamy fall looks. The fall collections don’t necessarily hibernate in spring and summer, especially those occasional pieces that are clearly meant for warmer climates, but there are a surprising amount of celebs stepping out in the heavier options as well.
Elizabeth Olsen at Comic-Con International 2014
Elizabeth boldly sported leather in a balmy San Diego over the weekend for the annual comic gathering. The star’s dark dress from The Row was further weighed down by black Prada sandals.
Christina Applegate at the Dizzy Feet Foundation’s Celebration of Dance Gala
From the gunmetal tone to the long length, Christina’s ZAC Zac Posen Fall 2014 gown seemed a bit out of season for a summer gala. Her Amrapali and Sethi Couture jewels along with Jimmy Choo heels did nothing to lighten the look.
Emma Stone at the New York Premiere of Magic in the Moonlight
The combination floral and woodland creatures print on Emma’s Dolce & Gabbana silk chiffon creation, not to mention its rich violet hue, gave the dress a definitive fall quality. Neil Lane and Vita Fede jewelry as well as strappy Dolce & Gabbana sandals rounded out the look.
Maria Sharapova at the 2014 ESPY Awards
It was an Antonio Berardi Fall 2014 long sleeve dress for Maria at the awards. While the lacy sleeves and short skirt both favor warmer climates, the black shade and even the edgy detail of her black Walter Steiger pumps place this firmly in the fall category.
Karolina Kurkova at the 20th Anniversary of Giuseppe Zanotti Design Event
Karolina may have been there to show off some Giuseppe Zanotti accessories, including her metallic clutch and leaf-laden footwear, but the model still selected a rather hefty look for a summer event in Spain. This black Azzedine Alaïa long sleeve knitted dress with flirty skater skirt wrapped up with a black leather belt was a pretty somber and probably sweltering choice.
Emma Watson at the Valentino Presentation During Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week
Sure, she was sitting front row at a Fall 2014 Haute Couture show and her Valentino Resort 2015 bralet and maxi skirt were both constructed of breathable macramé lace, but it was the way Emma styled the look that made it less summery. A black leather jacket and red suede pumps are not typically equated with warm weather.
Halle Berry Appearing On the Late Show with David Letterman
A sequin bodycon dress in the middle of summer? Apparently, Halle thought this plum Atelier Versace Fall 2013 creation was a perfect pick for the notoriously chilly Ed Sullivan Theater, but the Oscar winner had to be sweating while standing outside posing for pictures.
Alexa Chung at the Serpentine Gallery Summer Party
Despite the fact that this soiree has summer right in the name, Alexa decided to wear a velvet Erdem Fall 2014 dress with cut-outs decorating the hemline. At least it was strapless and sleeveless.

Debby Ryan at the 5th Annual Thirst Gala
Debby’s Lublu Pre-Fall 2014 dress was not destined for summer thanks to its dark blue color and long sleeves. That black leather belt added even more bulk.
Kat Graham at the 4th Annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards
This navy Escada Pre-Fall 2014 suit came across a bit stuffy for the current season with its silver mirrored accents. Although the flashy embellishments did tie in nicely with Kat’s silver Brian Atwood Besame pumps.
Nicole Kidman at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival Press Conference for Grace of Monaco
Nicole talked up her bio picture in an unseasonal metallic Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2014 long sleeve pleated dress with raised neckline. Those cap-toe T-bar pumps didn’t exactly scream early summer, either.
Florence Welch at The Other Ball
Florence loves a good boho print and this Mother of Pearl Fall 2014 suit certainly delivered. Layered over a white dress shirt, however, the look seemed a tad heavy for June.
Hayley Atwell at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2014
Ermanno Scervino’s Fall 2014 semi-sheer gown with bright floral embroidery was Hayley’s less-than-summery choice for the awards. We know that London can still be dreary even in June, but this black long sleeve creation teamed with that braided updo appears more suited for October.
