In times of uncertainty, we look to the Internet for levity. We smirk at memes and political cartoons. We watch creative crowds own the #MannequinChallenge.
For those not familiar with the #MannequinChallenge, it’s a viral video trend wherein a group of people (the more, the better) freeze in positions (the more elaborate and precarious, the better), as a cameraperson weaves through the set-up, zooming in on the details. The goofy tableaus are usually set to the tune of Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” which talks about “not blinking” in one line (beyond that and the catchiness of the beat, we’re not totally sure how the song achieved anthem status).
What started as a teen sensation — some of the best #MannequinChallenges have come from cheerleading squads and sports teams, because muscles, and muscle control — has officially reached the A-list set. While some celeb takes are sure to tug your weary heartstrings (Beyoncé, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland got in on the inaction at Rowland’s son Titan’s second birthday party) others (Kevin Hart’s) will have you full-on LOLing.
Scroll down for some much-needed comic relief, because, in the words of Alexa Chung, “When somebody makes you laugh when you’re sad, that’s the most enjoyable laugh you’ll ever experience.”
