Watch: Katy Perry Sings ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ Talks Feminism and Feuding with Taylor Swift

Last night, Vogue cover girl and 2017 Met Gala host Katy Perry took a spin in James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke”-mobile. The Witness singer brought her usual verve and sense of humor to the segment. She danced, she solo-ed, she made a compelling case for the high-impact eyeliner trend. She readily answered questions relating to her recent hair transformation. (Apparently, her new, “more androgynous [and architectural]” look was partially James Corden-inspired.) She even openly addressed the great American drama that is her (once purported, now confirmed) beef with Taylor Swift. Apparently, the feud began with a squabble over backup dancers and grew into a full, soundtracked “situation.” Perry alleges that Swift cast the first stone. “And I tried to talk to her about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me,” Perry revealed, adding, “I do the right thing any time that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I’m like, OK, cool, cool, cool, that’s how you want to deal with it? Karma!” We assume she’s referring to the success of her alleged Swift diss track “Swish, Swish.”

However, Perry is ready for the beef to be “taken off the grill,” should Swift text her and apologize. “I’m ready for that BS to be done. Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction…It’s all about karma, right?” Perry held, adding. “I think personally that women together — not divided, and none of this petty bullshit — women together will heal the world.” Somewhere, her BFF Hillary Clinton is nodding and smiling.

Corden seemed anxious to arrange for peace talks. And yet, for some strange reason, it’s immensely difficult to find Perry’s full Carpool Karaoke appearance online (it’s not yet on The Late Late Show’s YouTube page). We can’t help but think this has something to do its explicit(ly stated) content.
