Everyone Looked Gorgeous at Last Night’s ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ Premiere

Monday evening marked the Los Angeles premiere of director Luc Besson’s futurist sci-fi thrill ride Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which stars a bunch of high-profile fashion people, among them Cara Delevingne, Rihanna and Aymeline Valade.

Unsurprisingly, many of said fashion people’s equally fashionable friends showed up to fête the occasion, which made for one heck of a red carpet. Delevingne stunned in a silvery, semi-sheer Iris van Herpen gown and glam (extension-enabled?) finger waves. Valade channeled her Valerian persona, looking every bit the sexy alien in a shimmering gold suit and celestial makeup. Kendall Jenner slayed in an off-the-shoulder Carmen March number picked out by Marni Senofante, the genius behind the model’s recent style transformation.

But no one held a candle to Rihanna’s look. As is her way, Rihanna stole the show in a princessy Giambattista Valli Couture gown (which called to mind her 2015 Grammys outfit), matching lace-up sandals by her partner in shoe design Manolo Blahnik and bling by Chopard (another of her business associates). And just like that, Rih upped the ante on film premiere fashion.

Here’s hoping the movie — which hits theaters Friday, July 21 — serves up equally memorable fashion moments. We’ve got high hopes. After all, this is the same director who brought us Mila Jovovich’s white bondage Gaultier outfit in The Fifth Element and Natalie Portman’s 90s-perfect Léon: The Professional wardrobe. Homeboy knows how to choose a costume designer.
