Madonna's Material Girl Collection

Celebrity Fashion
June 30, 2010

Come August 3rd, Madonna will release a junior collection in 200 Macy’s doors, called “Material Girl”, which she designed with her daughter, Lola.

Madonna never ceases to amaze. As one of the first celebrities to team-up with H&M for a capsule collection, the superstar is no stranger to the world of affordable fashion.

Now, come August 3rd the Material mom will release a collection in 200 Macy’s doors, called “Material Girl”.

Madonna designed the fast fashion junior collection with her daughter, Lola, and the Iconix Brand Group's in-house fashion department.

Hitting racks just in time for the back-to-school season the “Material Girl” collection is priced from $12 to $40, and includes apparel, footwear, handbags and jewelry.

To build up buzz for the new line, the celebrity muse for the collection will not be revealed until the collection launches.

Ordinarily, this is the kind of collaboration I would be quick to dismiss – especially given how disappointing Madonna’s H&M collection was – but I like that the superstar teamed up with her daughter to create this line, and by all accounts Madonna has been very involved in the design process.

The “Material Girl” line is being described as “a spontaneous and fearless individual who invents her own fashion trends, and is never afraid to make a bold, creative statement. She is influenced by her eclectic taste in music, dance and Hollywood.”

For Fall 2010, the “Material Girl” collection will brim with prints and embellishments, and the looks are meant to be worn to reflect a mix of hard and soft elements –  such as wearing a tutu dress with studded combat boots, or an oversized boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral print mini skirt.

I’m hoping all of this translates into more of a LAMB kitschy-cool than a tacky, over-the-top J.Lo aesthetic.

Only time will tell, but so far all signs point to a fun, young collection.

This capsule collection from Milly for heritage brand Sperry is a chic departure from the classic boat shoes we're accustomed to. The preppy style gets an update with Milly's signature colorful prints, along with details like platform heels, nautical rope ties, and wedge soles.
