Thank goodness for Oscar de la Renta. The navy silk taffeta sweetheart neckline gown with organza flamenco ruffles that Lea Michele wore from the designer’s Resort 2011 collection saved the red carpet at the 2010 Emmy’s.

Thank goodness for Oscar de la Renta.

The navy silk taffeta sweetheart neckline gown with organza flamenco ruffles that Lea Michele wore from the designer’s Resort 2011 collection saved the red carpet at the 2010 Emmy’s.

The Glee star was by leaps and bounds the best dressed at the award show, and the Lorraine Schwartz statement necklace was the perfect accent.

Also in Oscar de la Renta was Tina Fey, looking better than ever in a black silk organza embroidered gown with white satin underlay from the Resort 2011 collection.

Jane Krakowski opted for a blue Escada gown, a brand we don’t see very often on the red carpet.

The custom one-shoulder silk cloque gown fit the actress beautifully, and it had just the right amount of frill via a side volant and a shoulder pouf.

Jenna Fischer opted for a strapless iteration of a red gown shown on the 2007 Fall Winter Versace runway – the color looked fantastic, and kudos to her for not being afraid to wear something from a past season.

Rose Byrne and Kim Kardashian both went for the goddess look. I’m a big fan of white, and each of the women looked comfortable, but neither gown was particularly awe-worthy. Byrne opted for a one-of-a-kind Gucci cut out dress, while Kardashian went for a look from Marchesa.

Also wearing white was Elisabetta Canalis.

While George Clooney’s girfriend's silk crepe Roberto Cavalli gown wasn’t all that memorable, she looked absolutely stunning in the slinky number.

The simplicity of the gown truly let her beauty shine.

On that note, unremarkable was a word that came to mind when looking at a number of dresses that made their way down the red carpet. Take, for instance, Keri Russell’s pink pleated chiffon vintage Jean Louis Scherrer Haute Couture gown, or Eva Longoria Parker in her Robert Rodriguez Black Label gown.

Whether boring is better than a red carpet fashion disaster is arguable. For better or worse, everyone is talking about January Jones, who is on top of the cringe list.

Jones looked ill at ease in a strapless Atelier Versace dress.

If only it wasn’t so long in the back, the look could have perhaps worked, but combined with the actresses’ bed-head-hair, the dress looked like a dated Madonna look.

Wanda Sykes opted for a nude Zuhair Murad gown, which had too many sequins. Speaking of too much, Emily Deschanel’s Max Azria Atelier one-shouldered purple gown would have fared better in a more neutral color, had it had less texture.

The worst dressed of the night award has to go to Rita Wilson, however.

She opted for a robot-esque Spring 2010 Prada dress with futuristic-like crystal netting.

To top it off, the actress wore Prada glass heels.

I can’t think of one person who wouldn’t look ridiculous in this number.
