Leighton Meester, Winona Ryder and Lara Bingle Suit Up

Celebrity Fashion
December 03, 2010

Love it or hate it, celebrities are borrowing from the boys this season.

As tFS has reported, the menswear-for-women trend is going strong on runways and red carpets alike. Back during Spring Fashion Week, designers Helmut Lang, Jil Sander, and Chloe all showed elegantly tailored suits for women in shades of grey and black, and now celebrities are suiting up and trying the look.

Lara BingleLeighton Meester wears a suit

Winona Ryder wears a suit at Black Swan premiere It wasn't just the men who were looking suave in suits at the GQ Man of the Year Awards at the Sydney Opera House; Aussie model Lara Bingle wore an ensemble by Dion Lee with trendy trousers and a blazer, and added a loosely tied bow for a sweet feminine touch (above, left). Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester went even more masculine at the 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in NYC (above, right). She channeled Annie Hall in a suit by Thom Browne, and threw in a pair of purple Ferragamo pumps to break up the monochrome.

At the Black Swan premiere in NYC, Winona Ryder wore a black tuxedo with a black dress shirt underneath, as well as a sparkling pendant. With her heavy eye makeup and her hair pulled back into a bun, the dark look was a little startling, but fitting, considering the vicious character she plays in the film.

Reactions to these looks on celebrity gossip sites ranged from fantastic to "fugly", proving that there's still something controversial about a powerful woman wearing a suit.

Try the look next time you want to shake things up.
