Get the Look: Celeb-Inspired Loafers

Trendsetting stars have been spotted all over town from New York to L.A. sporting loafers. Whether it be Rihanna in Celine’s pricey Spring/Summer 2011 City loafers (which retail for around $750), or Mary-Kate Olsen opting for a pair of Steve Madden’s boho-chic embroidered Madee loafers (which go for a more wallet friendly $120), this is a buttoned-up, but comfortable look we can all easily get on board with.

The wonderful thing about loafers is that they’re versatile. For an understated look, opt for monochromatic leather loafers accented with a contrasting leather cord or a simple metal buckle. Conversely, for a more daring look, work in an of-the-moment trend like animal heads (think Balenciaga), or leopard for a quirky touch that won’t overpower your outfit. For a boho touch, seek out needlepoint style loafers. Further, while most of us think of loafers as being flat or nearly flat slip-on shoes, for those that can’t bear to walk without some added height, heeled loafers are now more commonly available. Just as with flats, one can opt to keep them simple and monochromatic or work in some prints or color-blocking.
