Trendspotting: Celebs Fall for Mustard

It’s time to start getting ready for fall fashion, and as the leaves change from summer brights to fall neutrals, so do the colors of your wardrobe. The universally flattering shade of mustard has been hailed as on of the hot hues for fall 2011, and fashion-forward celebs are taking note. Mustard was big in the 70s spectrum, and with both the color blocking and all-things-retro trends in full swing, you’ll be sure to see a lot more statement mustard pieces as the season changes. Check out how Rihanna, Solange Knowles, and other celebs have been getting their palettes ready for fall in shades of mustard from honey to Dijon.

Stars are choosing bold mustard for their summer-to-fall transition outerwear, like Rihanna who managed to cover up and stand out all at once in the mustard jacket she wore while leaving Nozomi Restaurant in London. Frankie Sanford knows her color wheel: her combination of a mustard blazer with a contrasting sky blue tank and coral peeptoes popped. JoJo went more muted while attending a Taylor Swift concert at the Staples Center in LA. She paired a mustard blazer with shorts in another fall hue—plum—for an updated autumnal look.

Solange Knowles rocked the color block in cropped J. Crew mustard slacks and striped INC top. Finally, a stylish pant that can also make it through a sloppy hotdog nosh unscathed. Even at The Playboy Club in London Fearne Cotton managed to turn heads for her clothing in a pleated mustard tea dress. Mollie King left a photo shoot looking lovely in a belted mustard shift, showing off how nicely the shade combines with faded denim.
