Hollywood’s New ‘It Girl’: Felicity Jones

When actresses get praised for their style, they usually have a team of behind-the-scenes stylists and makeup artists to thank. But when Felicity Jones starred in Like Crazy with Ed Westwick—a film in which she did all her own hair and makeup—and her look still garnered attention, you know there’s a style star on the rise.

Jones first hit the stage at age 11, and in her teen years acted in the popular 90s TV show The Worst Witch. She went on to study English at Oxford, and her acting chops and striking beauty landed her following roles in Brideshead Revisted, The Tempest with Helen Mirren, and the upcoming Page 8 alongside Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. While her acting on screen is drawing praise—she won a Sundance special jury prize for her performance in Like Crazy and the Best New Hollywood Award—her style on the red carpet is turning the heads of fashion notables.

In particular, Burberry was taken in by the actress; the design house named her as the new face of Burberry this year. The actress’ bright blue “mesmerizing eyes” and dark, fringed hair draw her a lot of comparisons to Zooey Deschanel, her adorable gapped teeth bring to mind model Pattie Boyd,  and her romantic, vintage-inspired style is often compared to Carey Mulligan, but, as Vogue put it, her “birdlike beauty” is all her own. For that reason, she was chosen by Dolce & Gabbana as the first to debut their Spring/Summer 2012 collection on the red carpet, which she did, probably much to the chagrin of other front row ingénues, in a green eggplant-print organza dress at the NYC premiere of Like Crazy.

With all of her appearances promoting the film, Jones has shown off her sweet and retro personal style. Choosing one party dress in a sumptuous fabric after another, she’s had hit after hit, even making The Fashion Spot’s Look of the Day list with the powder blue silk Miu Miu dress with a pleated skirt she wore to the Toronto International Film Festival. A forum favorite, one user expressed Jones’ red carpet appearances succinctly: “Felicity’s been on a roll with her outfits lately! I love them all,” [wild roses].
