Who could have predicted that this year’s Golden Globes would offer as much sartorial eye candy as they did? Mermaid silhouettes were a big trend with Sofia Vergara, Reese Witherspoon, Kyle Richards, and Paula Patton among those opting for the figure grazing shape in bold monochrome hues. Mermaid silhouette aside, most of the stars opted for form-fitting monochrome dresses with one notable exception, Rooney Mara, who walked the red carpet in a black Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2012 gown with a plunging neckline, cut-outs, and bow detailing. Also worth singling out was Sarah Michelle Gellar in a Spring 2012 Monique Lhuillier blue watercolor print strapless gown. To complement the voluminous look, the star opted for a ponytail, similar to the one worn by Nicole Richie to go with her silver glamorous Julien MacDonald Spring 2012 gown. Rounding out the list of best dressed were Claire Danes in an embroidered cap sleeve J. Mendel gown, Angelina Jolie in an ivory and red Atelier Versace floor-sweeping look, and Tilda Swinton in a light blue Haider Ackermann dress and jacket.
