140 Character #PFW Fall 2012 Reviews

Fashion history was made, yet again, as Stefano Pilati showcased his final YSL collection. Emotional tweets reverberated throughout the twittersphere. Derek Blasberg  tweeted, “Nicolas Ghesquiere is here at Stefano Pilati’s last show for YSL, which is profound. (And so is Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and blah blah)…” Harry and Peter Brant followed with, “An emotional standing ovation for Stefano Pilati. See you very soon, we hope. #PFW.” Later that day, the brothers added, “Can’t help but feel like today is a sad day… #YSL 🙁  Cant wait to see what Stefano does next! bye. bye #YSL!!”

As the fashion world waited with bated breath, YSL’s successor was announced. FabSugar tweeted, “Breaking: Hedi Slimane named new YSL creative director.” Fashion twittersphere explosion quickly ensued.

Another #PFW highlight was the Stella McCartney show, which was dubbed “Stella’s blue period” by Style.com. Lucky magazine’s executive fashion director, Alexis B Morgan explained, “Blue and brocades @stellamccartney. Even the mascara was blue!” On his end, Derek Blasberg caught probably one of the most important moments of the show, if not fashion week, “Aww, proud paternal moment in Paris: Paul McCartney fist pumping (wait, did he invent the fist pump?) at daughter Stella’s #PFW show.”

Other celebrity sightings, and there were many, included: “Kristin Stewart, Salma Hayek, Charlotte Gainsbourg: see @BALENCIAGA’s front row stars,” as tweeted by British Vogue.  “Natalie Vodianova and Mila Kunis arrive at Dior,” spotted by Elle UK. @womensweardaily tweeted both, “Alicia Keys and Selma Hayek. Katy Perry at Chanel,” and, “Nicky Hilton and Natalia Vodianova were among those sitting front row at Valentino’s fall show.”

Fashion’s greatest anticipated Lanvin‘s collection as it marked Alber Elbaz‘s 10th anniversary at the house. @DerekBlasberg tweeted, “Tonight’s is Lanvin’s 10th anniversary extravaganza. Alber Elbaz says he planned something very special, but won’t give hints. I want Cher!” Model Anja Rubik added, “Lanvin will be very special, its Alber’s 10th anniversary.” As for the results? Bryanboy confirmed that yes, “Lanvin was spectacular and emotional.”

Did Balmain really go minimal? Fashion writer, Meenal Mistry tweeted, “OMG, Balmain went minimal! Kidding, there are buckets of pearls and crystals everywhere #pfw.” Nina Garcia asked her Twitter followers, “Are you ready for Balmain? I think you will need some caviar. It was a very rich collection.” ELLE UK discussed the ambiance at Balmain and also confirmed heavy embellishments, “Sequins, pearls, quilted velvet, Depeche Mode and bad-girl swagger for miles at Balmain.”

Karlie Kloss made her runway debut for Fall 2012 at @anthonyvacc, walked Balmain, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, and of course, Christian Dior. Style.com tweeted, “Karlie-who else?-closes Dior.” Fashion’s darling shared a couple tweets with her followers during her busy week. Tweeting a picture of herself and rapper/fashion designer Kanye West, she wrote, “Fun last night @anthonyvacc dinner with @kanywest.” She also previewed Kenzo’s runway tweeting, “The Amazing catwalk @Kenzo…hope I don’t get lost on the runway! #shitmodelssay.” Speaking of Kenzo, Fashionista tweeted, “Kenzo flew in bakers from NYC’s @MagnoliaBakery to make cupcakes for everybody. MMM #cupcakesbit.ly/wuJ1EX #pfw.”

Alexander McQueen’s Sara Burton continues to astonish by creating magnificent collections. Elle’s Joe Zee praised Burton tweeting, “The genius of Sarah Burton & why I love her: She always delivers a stellar collection but takes a bow in a simple shirt, jeans & flats.” W magazine added, “It’s Sarah Burton’s world and we’re just living in it.” Glamour’s EIC, @cindi_leive tweeted a picture of one of the amazing McQueen looks and commented, “OMG. McQueen. And the WHOLE SHOW was like this.”

While McQueen got praised, Kanye West’s collection received mixed reviews. When asked about attending the Kanye West show, Red Carpet Fashion replied, “Not…Not going to ruin my McQueen high for a vanity project.” Burn. Celebrity fashion blogger @courtjustice added rhetorically, “Did anyone ever wear anything from Kanye’s last collection?#PFW.” Kanye did have his famous friends on hand for support, “Kim Kardashian out supporting at Kanye West show, below saying hi to Common. #PFW,” tweeted @WmagKarla. While his talent as a designer might hold doubt for some, at least everyone agreed that Kanye can throw a decent after-party. @JakandJilBlog tweeted, “Hats off to @Kanye west for throwing the party of the season. @Azealiabanks @common @mosdef @bigsean all on stage & Go karts too. EPIC!!!”
