Predictably understated...

The fashions at the Golden Globes were predictably understated with most of the night’s big stars opting for pastels, gray, off-white, beige, and similarly neutral colored gowns and separates. Makeup was kept natural and jewelry was tame as well.

That said there was some shockingly wild hair – most notably Renee Zellweger and Drew Barrymore. Zellweger went for dramatic pinned-up curls to accompany her daring two-piece Carolina Herrera number, while Barrymore showed off her figure in a John Galliano for Dior gown with an 80-esque hairdo. The outfits and styling of both stars were misses for me, but at least unlike most of the night’s stars their looks stood-out.

Beyonce in a sequin ivory Elie Saab gown was one of the few to wear a jewelry statement piece along with Eva Mendez who wore a bold turquoise necklace to go with her Dior dress.

In fact, one of the biggest trends of the night was perhaps Christian Dior with a disproportionate number of stars opting to wear designs from the house (Demi Moore, Drew Barrymore, Eve Mendez…). Here Sandra Bullock shows off yet another neutral colored, one shoulder, ruffled number from the French house.

Both Anne Hathaway and Penelope Cruz were decked out in Armani Prive. Cruz wore a pale silk chiffon column dress  with an open back and Swarovski crystal beading, while Anne Hathaway wore a royal blue gown that was also embroidered with Swarovski crystals.
