EMMA WATSON TO DESIGN

Oh what a difference 60 days can make. It was just two months ago that the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince actress, budding model, and fashionista, Emma Watson dismissed the idea of adding fashion designer to her resume. Now things have changed, and the star will be, surprise surprise, designing a celebrity fashion line of her own for charity – the British fair-trade fashion label People Tree to be exact. She will be lending her creative juices for the brand’s Spring/Summer collection of women’s and men’s apparel and accessories. All sales from the line will be donated to the People Tree Foundation, which directly benefits fair-trade farmers and artisans in developing countries.

 
As to why – out of the countless charitable ventures within the fashion industry – Watson chose to align herself with the People Tree foundation, the actress noted that she was “excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to help alleviate poverty, and I knew it was something I could help make a difference with.” No images of the collection, which includes everything from organic knitwear to t-shirts, dresses, shorts and jewelry, have been released yet - but the pieces are set to hit stores February 2010 and will feature 26 women’s and 15 men’s styles and accessories. Rumor has it Watson’s inspiration was the South of France, London, and country festivals.
