Though they’re certainly not the first in the fashion world to venture into cell phones (anyone else remember the $5000-plus Dior cell? Or the Dolce & Gabbana one?), it will be interesting to see how the second mobile phones from both Porsche (the sports car giant has made waves in fashion, mainly accessories, for years), and Prada will fare against the iPhone and the soon-to-be-released Google phone. Both the Prada and the Porsche phone are priced at around $800 and are set to be released in November.
Prada sold about a million units of its first touch screen phone and has high hopes that its second black and silver phone (released initially only in Europe), will outsell its first. The mobile has a one-letter-per-key keyboard and a touch screen making the phone usable both vertically as well as horizontally. Other features include a five mega-pixel camera, a video call function, and a full-power HTML browser.
As for Porsche, their second phone, a gray and black one called the P’9522, will be sold in Porsche Design stores worldwide. The mobile’s 2.8-inch touch screen is made from a solid block of aluminum covered with an anti-scratch glass sheet and there’s a sensor imprinted with the owner’s fingerprints to protect personal data, along with a camera, an auto focus video camera, an MP3 reader, and a high-speed Wi-Fi connection.
