TREND: THE BARE MIDRIFF

Is it practical for the real woman to wear? Not at all, but it seems to be coming full force for Spring ’09. If placed into the wrong hands, the look can seem a little “tarty” and sadly only a few youthful, slender women will truly be able to pull this off. However, for those more sophisticated gals who want to partake in the bare midriff trend, try layering over a sheer tank or blouse to keep the look respectable or go for a little hint of the midriff with a high-waisted pant.

She’s on the go and doesn’t want to be messed with… Proenza Schouler pairs a contrasting dominatrix, black pleather top with high-waisted cream color, silk tapered pants.

Zac Posen creates a sassy Hamptons look with pastel color shorts, bandeau top and ruffled jacket.

Chloe keeps it chic and pretty with midnight color, high-waisted shorts, a peek at the belly with a matching top and oversized jacket to throw off proportions.

YSL is ready for the art exhibit in classic black with a v-neck top just hinting at the midriff, oversized Bermuda shorts and a black, printed cover up.

Elie Tahari leaves nothing to the imagination with an animal print bikini top, oversized, low slung harem pants and a lightweight nude color jacket.

If you live by the beach feel free to try something a little more daring, but for those city girls, try a look that gives just a hint of skin at the waist and make sure you have a cover up just in case.
