T BY ALEXANDER WANG

It has been quite the remarkable year for the young Alexander Wang. In addition to a critically acclaimed Spring/Summer 2009 collection, the wunderkind was named the fifth CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund recipient and as such received $200,000 and business mentoring from CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg.  Now, in line with the economic times, Wang has launched a diffusion line called T by Alexander Wang.

The online lookbook of the collection, which consists of cotton basics in 12 styles, has just launched on the web. The wholesale prices of the pieces range from $28 for a tank to $40 for a T-shirt dress which translates to $85 for a V-neck dress, $89 for a tank, $85 for a boat neck dress, and a $74 for a sleeveless tee retail.  Expect the same street-style influenced, slept-in, easy, breezy, too cool for school sexy-ness that has become Wang’s signature. Colors range from white, off-white, taupe, and gray to cerulean lavender, and chartreuse.

When speaking of his diffusion line Wang has said that the necklines have been intentionally stretched and that the armholes are strategically lowered so that the pieces look worn-in. The designer adds that his pieces are not the crisp little tee out of the dryer, but rather that they’re meant to be draped and look kind of wilted.

The T by Alexander Wang line will hit retailers including Barneys New York, Opening Ceremony, and Kirna Zabête at the end of January. For those who can’t wait till then, some of the pieces are currently available for pre-order on SaksFifthAvenue.com.
