THE FIND CELEBRATED AT PORTS 1961

On Thursday, April 30th The Elegant Thrifter and Ports 1961 creative director Tia Cibani hosted over 150 fashion insiders and scenesters at the new Ports 1961 Manhattan flagship store.

Located at 3 Ninth Avenue between Little West 12th and Gansevoort Streets in a 1850’s masonry building, the 4,000-square-foot boutique comes complete with an eye-catching open air terrarium which runs through the center of the townhouse, and a 31 foot continuous storefront window.

It was my first time attending an event at the stunning new boutique, and it was a great opportunity to check-out the Spring/Summer 2009 collection up close. I was particularly struck by the covetable statement necklaces prominently featured around the store (notably one made of deflated balloons!). There were also beautiful eco-friendly clutches made out paper, and striking dresses with intricate detailing including some with geometric stand-off collars, and others with ruched backs and center back zippers.

The event was held to celebrate the publication launch of ‘The Find: The Housing Works Book of Decorating With Thrift Shop Treasures, Flea Market Objects, and Vintage Details’ by Stan Williams, The Elegant Thrifter. Book publisher Clarkson Potter released 100 copies of The Find exclusively to Ports 1961 for sale at the event which took place five days before the official book release.

The crowd was all smiles as they drank champagne, noshed on Pop Chips, and snapped-up The Find and Spring/Summer 09 Ports 1961 looks.
