FOUNDER LEAVES J LINDEBERG

J. Lindeberg has always held a special place in my heart. My first foray into the Fashion Week tents occurred back when I was in High School and J. Lindeberg was staging their first Fashion Week show in New York City at the Bryant Park tents. I was completely enthralled (until the devastation of being turned away from their afterparty for being underage, that is).

Now, years later Johan Lindeberg is leaving the namesake company he founded in Stockholm in 1996 where, until recently, he held the title of Independent Creative Director (which he has had since his company was bought by Swedish investment firm Proventus in 2007).

J. Lindeberg is now designed by former Jil Sander head designer Pierangelo D’Agostin (he designed the Spring 2010 collection), while Johan and his wife Marcella Lindeberg will now be launching their own new label, called Paris68, with wears for both men and women for Fall 2010. The line will be designed in New York and produced, for the most part, in Italy. In addition, the duo launched a design consultancy (called Paris68 as well). William Rast is one of their most notable clients.

In response to the current situation, Lindberg said that while it was a very tough decision for him to leave a brand that has been associated with his name, as it started out as a extension of his personal interest and lifestyle, he also noted that he has not been very involved during the last two years.  He said that he views the 10-year anniversary collection for Fall 2007 as his last complete collection for J. Lindeberg.
