What We’re Wearing: New York Fashion Week Photo Diary, Day 1

There’s always a mix of excitement and nerves when New York Fashion Week starts, so more than ever, my mother plays a critical role on day one. She’s, without a doubt, my best friend and helps me keep things in perspective when I’m feeling overwhelmed. On occasion, she’s even been my date to a fashion-related event or two. Like most days, today I started off with a quick phone call with her before changing into a pair of denim pants, an ivory faux leather cut-out top and a faux leather jacket with peplum detailing, all from INC International Concepts from Macy’s.

The neutral palette will work well to transition from day to night, which is critical today because I won’t have much time to spare. The first day of Fashion Week is always great because things kick off with BCBGMaxAzria — a perennial favorite. Not only do I always love a number of pieces in their ready-to-wear lineup, but they also make amazing accessories. Plus, their prices won’t leave you forever in debt. Also exciting today is the private launch event for the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection. Target doesn’t do anything small, especially not during New York Fashion Week, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they have in store tonight…and I hope it won’t be too much of a battle to snag a pair of the pale blue trousers from the collection!
