RACHEL ROY S/S 2009

Rachel Roy’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection, which the designer presented in the fittingly bright atrium of the IAC building, was all about chic cocktail attire. The space’s lighting was a wonderful complement to the collection’s mostly neutral color palette (though there were pops of deep citrus and green).

Roy’s inspiration — an American in Paris by way of Africa – is evident particularly in many of the tribal-print pieces.

Many of the looks played on volume and there were a handful with delicately layered, billowing details.

There were also loosely draped goddess-inspired gowns, silk pajama suits, jumpsuits, sophisticated embroideries, and boyfriend blazers with rolled-up sleeves exposing red seams, making for a varied, versatile, and wholly chic collection.  The looks were complements by gorgeous strappy sandals in varying patterns and tones.
