ALEXANDREW HERCHCOVITCH S/S 2009

by Sharon Feiereisen

I know it’s only the second day of Fashion Week, but I’m venturing to say that the Spring/Summer 2009 Alexandre Herchcovitch collection titled “Army of Love” will be my favorite of the season. Each and every one of the looks were so intricately beautiful that I literally left the show with chills. The Brazilian-born Herchcovitch, with his impeccable tailoring, is truly one of today’s most talented and innovatively fashion-forward designers.

Inspired by politically-troubled, foreign-ruled war torn countries we’re told on the program notes that Herchcovitch is looking to use fashion and creativity as a venue and vehicle of protest for liberty, compassion, love, and equality of rights for all humanity.

Despite this potent message the collection was nothing if not delicate and feminine, but with a powerful softness — oversized shoulders, ruffles (many of which popped-up in the most unexpected of places for an almost lingerie feel to some of the looks), chiffon, khaki-detailing, and Ottoman-inspired prints appeared throughout the show.
