Clothing aside, as is the case with Isaac Mizrahi, I am enamored with Michael Kors because of his ebullient personality – how fun, witty, and smart is he as a judge on Project Runway and how much do you want to hug Isaac after watching him on his eponymous show?
When it comes to design aesthetic however neither are on my favorite list (though I have to say, for the first time, I went crazy over Mizrahi’s collection, with its pops of neon, this season).
Unfortunately Michael Kors’ Spring 2009 collection, with its abundance of polka dotes, stripes, and plaids wasn’t a home-run this season. Yes he is one of the kings of American sportswear, but nothing about these looks seemed fresh to me. They all had a very retro, 50s flare and while his looks usually have me longing for a private jet to St. Tropez, I didn’t find any stand-out glam looks and where were the gowns?
One look in particular, a fitted sea blue top with black geometric accents looked like a scuba ensemble paired with black cargo pants on one of the male models.
That said, I can appreciate this collection for its vibrancy and optimism, I just wish Kors had presented a fresher collection – one without oddly shaped rectangular hats.
