MIAMI FASHION SWIM WEEK: TORI PRAVER

Monday, 20 July 2009 07:32

American model and designer Tori Praver kicked-off the third full day of shows during Miami’s Fashion Week Swim by showcasing her newly expanded eponymous line in the Raleigh Hotel’s Penthouse at 4 pm via a press preview. This season, Praver introduced maillots and cover-ups to her line, and expanded the palette of her bikinis by adding pastels, white, and cream.

Like most of the collections we have seen so far this week, Praver’s designs are uber body conscious.  Her two piece looks are mostly of the mix and match variety (although a handful of them matched).

However, unlike so many other suits that look like they might expose more than one would desire to, or even come undone when they hit the water, Praver (an avid surfer) designed all of her swimwear to withstand the harsh waves that surfers often face.

Praver knows a thing or two about swimsuits, being that she is best known for being in the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issues (she was the subject in a number of Joanne Gair’s body painting shoots in those editions). She has also modeled for Guess?, Yamamay, and Liu-Jo, and was discover at the age of eleven on the island of Maui in Hawaii. In fact, for her collection this season, Praver’s embellishments are inspired by her childhood in Hawaii as well as her travels to Bali.

Word is that she is looking to expand the Tori Praver Swimwear line with some eco-friendly suits, with sales going to charity.
