MIAMI FASHION SWIM WEEK: ED HARDY

French fashion designer and entrepreneur Christian Audigier has been in the news quite a bit lately. Word is that the Ed Hardy designer is looking to partner with Jon Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8 on a children’s apparel line. The two were spotted spending a lot of time on the designer’s yacht in St. Tropez. For now, there are no official next steps (that the public is aware of, at least). The designer, who showed at last year’s Miami Fashion Week Swim, was back on the 18th to showcase his 2010 contemporary swimwear collection at the Cabana Grande at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami Beach.

The California-inspired looks came in a wide range of colors and fabrics. The embellishments were fairly minimal to keep the focus on the loud prints, but a number of the suits featured custom hardware.  Going with the trend seen in almost every show this season, nearly all the two piece looks had mixed and matched separates.

Anyone familiar with Ed Hardy’s tattoo-style prints would recognize most every look that came down the runway as distinctly Hardy. The show was upbeat, and as a fun touch the designer had a few of the models walk the runway glistening with body oil, hands in the air, with smiles on their faces. While not all the looks were very revealing, and while the designer for the most part stuck with traditional swimsuit shapes,  the collection was loudly colorful and certainly not for the demure.
