MIAMI FASHION SWIM WEEK: WHITE SANDS AUSTRALIA

Showing a collection that truly stood out was Leah Madden, with her White Sands Australia line, shown at the Beachway at Miami Beach’s Raleigh Hotel. The show opened with a striking pink suit covered with a handful of red rosettes, and was followed by a two-piece number, where the top was made of glistening green wide-brimmed leaves covered in flowers. The show then moved into more traditional suits, including frilly bandeau bikinis and strapless one-piece suits, and tiny Brazilian bottoms that were shown with traditional triangle tops, many of which were ruffled. There were also some two piece looks with strapless tops that had underwire built into them, making them look very lingerie-inspired.

Of all the maillots shown – which came in a variety of colors and some, with deep plunging V necklines – the stand out was a black strapless piece with a heart-shaped top that featured undulating lines at the bottom. It looked particularly wearable, simple, and elegant.

As for the resort wears the designer showed a sky blue romper, jumpsuits, droopy, almost harem-like pants that were impressively well-draped, as well as more traditional sheer cover-ups and maxi dresses that were shown in a variety of colors and patterns. The resort collection took its inspiration from 80’s glamour, and tying into that were sexy sequined t-shirt dresses. The resort, while fairly well executed, failed to deliver anything particularly new and played into most of the trends we’ve seen hit the runways these past few seasons.
