MIAMI FASHION SWIM WEEK: XTRA LIFE LYCRA
To cap off the third full day of Miami Fashion Week shows, Xtra Life Lycra showed their collection at the Raleigh Hotel’s Cabana Grande. After checking out the Mara Hoffman show, the Cast of MTV’s The City once again made an appearance front row, as did Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Brooklyn Decker, and Real Housewives of New York star Kelly Killoren Bensimon.
Before the Xtra Life Lycra Fiber 2009 Swimwear Show began, there was a cocktail reception where guests were able to mingle before taking in the wide breath of fashions shown. Hosted by Gretta Monahan, style expert and co-host of Bravo Network’s “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,” the show featured archival garments from 1960-1990 and swimwear looks from 2010 designer collections containing Lycra fiber and Xtra Life Lycra fiber.
It was a fun and exciting show, and the eclectic mix of swimwear shown was a wonderful way to cap off the long day of shows.
Among the most impressive looks was a sheer black maillot with strategically placed white flowers and gold leaves, paired with a gorgeous cream headpiece covered entirely with flowers. A vintage strapless one-piece with a colorful splatter print was also shown, paired with a cover up and a belt around the waist. This is a trend that has been resurrected and has popped up in a number of the designer shows so far this season.
More so than the suits, however, the styling of the show was very impressive. From the bold jewelry, to the wide brimmed floppy hats, dangling earrings, chain necklaces, and dark shades, the show flowed very well and gave a wonderful overview of Lycra's amazing contribution to the fashion world.
