MIAMI FASHION SWIM WEEK: LULI FAMA
As Miami Fashion Week Swim reached its close, Miami-based designers Luli and Augusto Hanimian unveiled their Luli Fama 2010 collection. The brother and sister-in-law duo’s collections always have a distinctly Latin flair (the designers were born in Cuba and Argentina), and their style has proven very successful for them over the years as some of the world’s top models, celebrities, and athletes including Gisele Bundchen, Bar Rafaeli, Anna Kournikova, have all been photographed wearing the swimwear line.
This year, the design team dedicated their collection to “sexy glamour” and so, fittingly, the collection was full of vibrant tones – blues of the ocean, purples of the sky at sunset, and the glimmering gold of the stars.
To go with the fun and flirty theme, balloons filled the Oasis venue in the Raleigh Hotel where the Luli Fama show was held.
Nearly all of the looks shown were brightly-colored and festive. Many of the looks had an almost ikat-like printed look to them while others with their polka dots and flowers felt very psychedelic, especially given the shades of pink, yellow, and greens that were used.
Black was kept to a noteworthy minimum, and when the designers did opt to show black looks, they were always topped off with bold details such as over-sized pink bows, tiny polka dots, colorfully scalloped edges, and gold mountain spike hardware, to name just a few.
This season’s Luli Fama collection was well-edited and cohesive. That said, it was certainly not for any demure beach goers. With an abundance of prints, skimpily cut styles, and eye catching hardware, the 2010 looks were nothing if not screaming for attention.
