MIAMI FASHION SWIM WEEK: V DEL SOL

This year, in its fifth season, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, had its most exciting season to date. IMG hosted more shows than ever in the series of runway and presentation-style shows that took place from July 15th through the 19th at Miami Beach's historic hotel The Raleigh which offered designers multiple venues - the Cabaña Grande, the Beachway and the Oasis, in addition to The Raleigh’s Penthouse event space to showcase their collections.

L*Space by Monica Wise, this season's Mercedes-Benz Presents designer, Bohéme Boutiques, Caffé Swimwear, Marysia Swim, Crystal Jin, Aqua Di Lara, Tori Praver Swimwear, Mara Hoffman, White Sands Australia, and Vitamin A were just a few of the designers to make their debut this season, and V Del Sol had the distinct honor of closing the festivities with the season’s final show at the Cabaña Grande at 10pm.

The label added to two new lines this season, the Black Label and Redline collections both of which will, if all goes well, help dramatically increase their customer base. The Redline is aimed at a younger clientele – or as V Del Sol says, those that are “young and young at heart,” while the Black Line “proves that women do not have to settle for a second-hand fashion experience.”

Veronique de la Cruz, the creative director and co-founder of V Del Sol, delivered a brightly colorful collection that focused on accessorizing and details that one would often find in a ready-to-wear collection. Bold hats, long trains, over-sized jewelry including long, chunky tangling necklaces, chandelier earrings, and stacked bangle bracelets were all widely used in the collection.

One look in particular – a plaid strapless maillot made of a bikini style top with a thin piece of fabric connecting it to the bottom – stood out as particularly ready-to-wear inspired given that it had an Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci-esque train that was cut long in the back, and revealing in the front.

Cut out details were featured prominently, as well as small bow ties, and sea-inspired prints for an all around sexy and vibrantly colored collection.
