LUCA LUCA SPRING 2009
A new creative director for Luca Luca doesn't necessarily mean a drastic new direction for the fashion label. In his runway debut Monday at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Raul Melgoza presented a spring collection that captured the shapely spirit of Luca Orlandi's woman, but with even more emphasis on cut, fit and luxe fabrics...
MICHAEL KORS SPRING 2009
Clothing aside, as is the case with Isaac Mizrahi, I am enamored with Michael Kors because of his ebullient personality – how fun, witty, and smart is he as a judge on Project Runway?
OSCAR DE LA RENTA 2009
The way most people look at Marc Jacobs and think he can do no wrong, I look at Oscar de la Renta. His collections could make even the most grungy girl suddenly have the urge to put on a delicate cocktail dress.
PROENZA SCHOULER MAKES JUMPSUITS SHINE
What looks silly on one fashion runway can be stunning on another, as Proenza Schouler proved Monday evening at its preview of spring styles. The harem pants and jumpsuits that looked gimmicky at other shows at New York Fashion Week were fantastic here in all their beaded glory.
MARCHESA SPRING 2008
It's surprising that red-carpet favorite Marchesa opted for a presentation at the Chelsea Art Museum, rather than a traditional runway show. It would have been nice to see how their eye candy of a collection moved on a runway. That said, given their gorgeous frocks, it was fitting that the models were setup on platforms showing-off looks that were truly wearable works of art.
NARY MANIVONG SPRING 2009
Nary Manivong's Spring 2009 Collection fit-in well with the flirty, feminine look that is emerging as a dominant trend for Spring.
CYNTHIA STEFFE SPRING 2009
The urban girl indulges her country club fantasy in the Shaun Kearney-designed Cynthia Steffe Spring 2009 collection. Amidst a mostly neutral color palette, ruffles, bows, rushing, graphic patterning, and pops of colors (indigo, pool, leaf, geranium), made for a fun, flirty collection that stuck to be being relatively casual.
PETER SOM FINDS A DESERT OASIS AT FASHION WEEK
Peter Som's spring runway was a closet full of clothes for the young and beautiful set. The collection, shown Monday at New York Fashion Week, was an even mix of tropical colors and neutral earth tones, resortwear and cocktail dresses.
MISS SIXTY MINES THE '70s FOR INSPIRATION
Miss Sixty is a trendy young-market brand so it makes sense that its newest collection hit on many of the major trends to emerge so far at New York Fashion Week: rompers, harem pants, one-shoulder tops, miniskirts and loose, easy outfits.
ISAAC MIZRAHI CREATES INSECT FASHION NOT TO SWAT
Inspiration comes from all sorts of sights, sounds and experiences - fashion designers say that all the time. Apparently, Isaac Mizrahi took his from the insect world with a spring collection previewed Monday named "Swarm" and dresses in the spirit of dragonflies, beetles, even cockroaches.
