ALEXANDREW HERCHCOVITCH S/S 2009

Monday, 08 September 2008 00:13

I know it's only the second day of Fashion Week, but I'm venturing to say that the Spring/Summer 2009 Alexandre Herchcovitch collection titled "Army of Love” will be my favorite of the season. Each and every one of the looks were so intricately beautiful that I literally left the show with chills. The Brazilian-born Herchcovitch, with his impeccable tailoring, is truly one of today's most talented and innovatively fashion-forward designers.

VERRIER S/S 2009

Sunday, 07 September 2008 23:59

Ashleigh Verrier's Spring/Summer 2009 collection with its abundance of Swarovski crystals, chiffon, organza, and rich colors, conjured-up images of fairy tales, and princesses. The ultra feminine collection was utterly delectable and I couldn't take my eyes off the wonderfully bold pendant necklaces that complemented a select number of looks. The stand-outs for me were an ivory linen/needle lace fille tunic with pockets (pockets seem to be emerging as a big trend this season), and an ivory striped chiffon and argent trellis halter cocktail dress with Swarovski crystals. Both pieces were feminine and delicate, but there was a powerful sexy-ness to them.

RACHEL ROY S/S 2009

Sunday, 07 September 2008 23:43

Rachel Roy's Spring/Summer 2009 collection, which the designer presented in the fittingly bright atrium of the IAC building, was all about chic cocktail attire. The space's lighting was a wonderful complement to the collection's mostly neutral color palette (though there were pops of deep citrus and green). Roy's inspiration -- an American in Paris by way of Africa – is evident particularly in many of the tribal-print pieces.

RAG AND BONE S/S 2009

Saturday, 06 September 2008 05:57

A mix of punk, mod, and a modern-day hipster flare were all the rage at the Spring/Summer 2009 Rag & Bone show. While I thought the collection did have some successful pieces, overall the collection fell a little flat for me. The skinny jeans, suspenders, wrap-around belts, and narrow ties have been popular for a few seasons now and you could take a trip to Manhattan's Lower East Side any day and find dozens upon dozens of men and women decked-out in similar looks to those presented in this collection.

MANUEL S/S 2009

Saturday, 06 September 2008 01:19

Manuel's creative director Wilfredo Rosado presented his Spring/Summer 2009 collection for Manuel at the Loft in the Bryant Park Hotel on September 5th. The presentation was beautifully executed and had the models standing like delicate mannequins against a black backdrop. Rosado said that his menswear was a tribute to Diego Rivera – "these clothes are a tribute to the sensibility of Rivera. I wasn't interested in doing a straight-up homage, but rather, a celebration of the artist's way of being masculine...

YIGAL AZROUEL S/S 2009 COLLECTION

Saturday, 06 September 2008 00:54

Yigal Azrouel's Spring/Summer 2009 collection was all about movement. The fluid silhouettes were so impeccably draped to appear effortless that the models appeared to naturally glide in the loosely fitted, voluminous fabrics as they strutted down the runway...

BCBG S/S 2009 COLLECTION

Saturday, 06 September 2008 00:41

If BCBG's S/S 2009 collection could be summarized by one phrase it would be – pockets, pockets, pockets! It seemed that nearly every models strutting down the catwalk had her hands in the pockets of her exquisitely draped dress. I have to say that I'm usually not the biggest BCBG fan (except last season's shoes which were exquisite), but this season I found the collection to be utterly wearable, easy and comfortable, while being sexy and chic.
