Farm chic in white...

It was farmer chic at its best at Chanel for the Karl Lagerfeld-designed Spring/Summer 2010 collection shown amidst piles of hay, dirt, trees, and greenery at the Grand Palais.

These bucolic images may conjure up ideas of recession friendly designs, but in fact, nothing could be farther from the truth.  Lily Allen, who stars in one of Chanel’s latest ad campaigns got up in the middle of the show for an impromptu live performance, both Prince and Rihanna were in attendance sitting pretty in the front row,, and at the end of show a handful of models took to rolling around in the hay.

The collection was all about ornate – almost Victorian – details constructed with couture-like precision, and if Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 2009 show for Chanel taught us anything, its that the Kaiser is a master when it comes to working with white.

It comes as little surprise that the best looks at this season’s show were those done in white, and similarly, light beige and ivory – most of which could be found at the start of the runway show.

From loose fitting, wide leg pants paired with classic Chanel tweed, to quilted ensembles, to those with ornately festooned shoulders, there were plenty of traditional pieces mixed in with bolder numbers to suit the wide variety of clients the house attracts.
