TORONTO FASHION WEEK S/S 2010
Highlights from the collections...
It comes as a shock to many that so many of today’s hot up and coming designers are from the great white north. Canada has churned out innovators like Jeremy Laing, Mark Fast, Jean-Pierre Braganza, and Rad Hourani. Unfortunately, most designers choose to move to another fashion capital or at least show in one of the larger fashion week settings. This leaves Toronto’s home fashion week a touch dry, in terms of recognizable talent, but in no way devoid of creativity. Here are some highlights from this past showing of the S/S 10 collections:Greta Constantine
The darlings of the Toronto fashion scene, Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong, took over an Audi dealership to show loyalists and media alike their Spring 2010 collection. Known for their impressive work with Jersey, the pair may have let inspiration run a little too free, as some critics pegged the collection as a bit scattered.

Travis Taddeo
This 26-year-old designer from Montreal is being hailed as Canada’s answer to the Alexander Wang-type contemporary designers. His showing for this season has been pegged as somewhat of a disappointment, but he is one to keep an eye out for seasons to come.

Lucian Matis
Canada’s king of evening and glamor showed audiences a warrior-meets-performance collection filled with interesting textures and finely draped dressed. Feminine silhouettes and perfectly matched textiles rounded out his elegant and cohesive Spring collection.

Pink Tartan
Designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran took a departure from last season’s tough girl aesthetic and rode the ‘80s wave into Spring. Day dresses and cropped jackets were paired with athletic wear and classic Pink Tartan touches like button-down shirts and sailor trousers for a fresh take on the Spring trends.
