Courreges is a favorite of mine...I always fawn over his coats in vintage stores. The other week I finally got my hands on a piece, an old treasure of my grandmothers from the mid 60s. It's a gorgeous pale pale pink so I'm going to have quite the challenge keeping it clean
Sleeveless party dress made from heavy matt finish silk, probably double faced. Plain around neck. Neckline, bust, waist, and hem all decorated with horizontal rows of ivory silk disc braid. Additional narrow edging attached to sleeve-holes (probably subsequent to purchase). CB has 19inch zip. Fully lined with ivory acetate, from hem up, also interlined with buckram.

1979 - 1970 Long-sleeved day dress with elasticated waist under a very narrow peplum. Boat neckline faced with plain blue cotton twill; cb opening, neck to waist,fastening with 6 self cotton covered buttons and with zip in skirt below. Side seams with pockets set in and faced with blue cotton. Fully lined with pale lilac acetate. Labels left back, "Courreges, Paris, O" and washcare instructions and model number "28051"

Courreges later died of cancer ( and indeed a broken heart ) and his wife continued with the house for a time , only to be sacked by ITOKAN when business did not pick up .
A sad story , indeed .

1965 Cream worsted wool dress and jacket with blue spandex trim.
Blue plastic piping emphasises the structure of this outfit. The double-breasted coat covers a short, sleeveless dress. Many young French people wore this combination of blue and white in the mid sixties, known as the 'matelot' (sailor) style.
The dress has two short splits on either side and two pocket flaps. It fastens at the back with buttons to the waist. The back of the coat has two blue-edged vents cut as far as the waistline.

Scarlet wool gabardine mini dress, Spring 1966 for the 'Couture Future' collection.
This pinafore is typical of the simple, triangular shape of many mini dresses. It is made from thick fabric and the seams emphasise how the dress is cut symmetrically. Decoration is minimal with two pocket flaps at the front and a belt attached at the centre back by two buttons.

Brown and white striped gabardine coat, Winter 1967 collection.
This double-breasted coat fastens with six brown plastic buttons and has a small turnover collar. The stiff gabardine material holds its crisply tailored A-line shape perfectly. A striking pattern of brown stripes emphasises the structure of the garment. There are two decorative pockets flaps at the front and a striped belt attached with two buttons at the back.

And last but not least from this museum - my favorite so far:
Cotton and machine embroidered organza mini dress, Spring 1967 collection.
This flared shift dress fastens with a zip at the centre back. It has semi-transparent panels at the midriff and collarbone. Glittering perspex is used for the centre of the padded daisies, resembling Indian garments decorated with mirrors.
A photograph from the Courrèges House archives shows a model with a geometric haircut wearing an identical dress. She also has on short white gloves, white knee socks and flat T-bar shoes.
The dress was worn and given by Princess Stanislaus Radziwill, also known as Lee Bouvier, the sister of Jacquie Kennedy.

Courrèges is still alive! He has just done a collaboration with La Redoute. He has stopped designing in 1996, and his wife Coqueline has taken over the couture house ever since.
