About Post Counts in the Sidewalk Cafe Forums.

if post count doesn't really matter why can't we just count the posts in H&S and have mods privately address those who they think are spamming the forum?

I think it makes sense…a least for the moment. It is nice to go into the, for example ,front row and visualizing fashion forums and not see the same sort of threads over and over again…and this is from someone who regularly posts in Sidewalk Café....post count is only a number after all.

I post quite a bit in H&S and don't want anyone speaking for me...so I'll just say that I don't care about my post count period. I spend a lot of time welcoming new members with karma...and I know other members welcome new members in their own ways so I don't think they are being ignored. Like softie said the decision has been made you can't please everyone...so don't take it personally. Even though there are some threads in H&S that I find ridiculous that doesn't mean I'm not going to continue to post. I think it's a great forum for venting & I use it for that reason quite often. I don't understand why some want tFS to go back to how it used to be...it's an evolving forum...so if you choose to stay & keep an open mind then I believe you can grow & learn in ways you might have never thought possible.

however- this matter is not up for a vote
the decision has been made...
in the best interest of the ENTIRE community...
looking at the big picture of the forum as a whole...

this is not directed at any one member or group...
it's much bigger-because that is how the mods have to consider things-always...

it's a BIG place and there are a LOT of people here...

its not about post count to me...(and i dont like it when ppl think it is) im just sad that it happened because to me it seems like its not appreciated...

anyway, i didnt say that i speak for ALL members who post there, i said i speak for alot of members who post there and they TOLD ME...
they surely know that they are free to speak their minds but they dont do it because it doesnt matter anyway...plus youre saying youre doing whats best for the entire community but how do you really know it is? was there a vote, was there even someone asking what the 'community' thinks about it?

im not saying that you dont do whats best for the ENTIRE community and i understand that you are the mods and you make the rules...and just because im disagreeing doesnt mean i dont respect what youre doing or that it is alot of work but you cant speak for an ENTIRE community either...but okay thats the system, someone has to make the rules and we have to accept them...thats the way it goes and thats fine..

however MMA, in my honest opinion youre objecting yourself a bit because on the one hand you say its an evolving forum and you dont see why it should be like it used to be...but thats exactly what this thing is about...going back to being fashion-focused...

I think the decision to not count heart & soul posts will just make matters worse..

I personally don't really care about my post count, but spammers will just go to other sections on TFS to increase their posts.
The real "fashion-y" threads on TFS will just get spammed which isn't a great thing because they are what TFS is all about.

we can't presume to know exactly what will happen, but after a lot of discussion the mods decided that this is something we would like to give a try to help steer the community in a more fashion-oriented, quality-driven direction..

i know there have to be rules but if you change something on this forum you have to face discussion/arguing about it...no one is being rude or something, there is no point of arguing, thats for sure but that doesnt mean we cant discuss it, does it?

well.. it seems that the people who will be driven away are the ones who don't see the value of posting in the fashion related forums and are only here to drive up their post count by spamming threads..
and imo that wouldn't be such a loss..

and i wouldn't call this a rule...
it's not some sort of guideline..
just a revised feature of the forum..

I would really love if post counts could be not shown.
I think that would make new members feel less overwhelmed when they see someone with 20 000+ posts. I'm sure that there are a lot of lurkers on tFS with pertinent fashion-related information to contribute to the forum that currently get turned off from posting.

there have been many rules that were put in place because of suggestions from members...
that's why we have this section...
the mods can't be everywhere all the time...
sometimes a member has a thought about how the forums can be run better, or a suggestion regarding a section or subforum...
as a team, we look at those suggestions, discuss them, and determine if it's in the best interest of the community as a whole...

no one ever said we speak for the entire community...
we are just trying to do what's best for the community...
if we put this up for debate, there would have never been a resolution...
and even if there were a vote, there would have been people that were upset by the outcome...
there are always going to be people that object...

finally, no one is saying sidewalk cafe doesn't count, because if we felt that way, this section wouldn't be here...
if you ask me personally, alot of the threads in H&S are useless...
sure, i post in there from time to time, but if the entire section went away, it wouldn't matter to me...
i come to this forum because i want to talk to other people about fashion...
my feeling is there are tons of other forums around if you want to talk about your period, what smilie are you, what are you having for breakfast, etc.
i do understand, however, that it's part of tFS, and that many members go there to take a break, meet and learn more about other members...

you keep repeating that it isn't about post count, yet that's all you keep talking about...
if it doesn't matter, then move on...
your contributions to the forum shouldn't hinge on a number, or the lack thereof...
