i like the current rules against hotlinking, as i often revisit threads or have gone over old ones as a newish member, and it's frustrating to see those red x's.
also, i think it would be better for tfs if it offered a rich archive, a repository of fashion information, rather than slightly quicker information (and just how much quicker is dubious) that just as quickly becomes outdated. the former promotes depth and discussion, and the latter, ever more hyper speeds of digital consumption.
As to one of the main questions regarding 'speed' of posting images after a show, I don't see how it would take that much longer to transload images to a hosting site before posting here, maybe a few seconds.
It doesn't take much longer.. but sometimes I sense that there is a competition to be the one posting new images first...
I brought this issue to the moderators before starting the thread here.. and it was mentioned that they had experienced having uploaded images just to come back and find the picture/s already posted (hotlinked) ..not really something that would motivate anyone to transload a bunch of pictures.
Thanks for the feedback and all the suggestions everyone (please keep them coming).

That's kind of where I'm going, is to have the images stored on tFs servers where they could also be used as a catalog or archive of sorts for future use as well as in the immediate threads. They would remain as long as tFs wanted them to; there would be no "red x's " or dead images unless there was a copyright challenge. And if there was, the contested image could possibly be removed from all threads at once by removing it from the tFs server.
So 'longevity' is where I'm going. Speed of posting and racing to get it posted first just doesn't seem that important.

Right now, there is not rule about not hotilinking to Getty ... but that is exactly the problem. Getty changes the pictures soon after they put them up .... and that results in a dead link in a matter of days. That is why we delete your post , because there is nothing for the rest of us to see anymore. You might still see it if it's cached on your computer ... but we can't.
If you want to keep your picture so everyone can see it after Getty has deleted it, we suggest that you upload it to your own image hosting site and link to that, instead.

Oops sorry BetteTI forgot that was the main reason for this thread
members here should be advised that their post count could decrease if they post hotlinked images within posts that are later removed due to dead images...
Although not specifically on topic of images being deleted from the host servers, this post is a classic example of why Hotlinking should be restricted.
This post is over 5,000 pixels wide (about 6 times the normal width of a web page) due to poor practices by the poster. Had the poster been required to use the Attachment function, the page wouldn't be stretched so wide.
This problem could also be prevented by enabling width restrictions in the vBulletin Forum configuration panel.
