Sooo, what should we do? I'm not going to bother saving all pictures on my computer and then upload them again. I know I've seen scans from TFS on there several times as well.
ISA_ sent me the message because I have the same username over there as here so it was quite easy to figure out who I was. But maybe I should reg. again with a diff. username so they don't know who I am then haha.
Haha okey, because I was so friendly and said I should tell this to everyone on here but now after I've been thinking about it for a while I just think it's stupid. If they host their pics on Imagevenue, they can't tell us that we can't use them...
Hotlinking is considered stealing bandwidth unless you have permission to do so. Many sites don't want to pay for that our of their own pocket. We have no rules about where you link to ... but we ask that you respect other site's rules and refrain from hotlinking if they ask you not to.
We ask for credits as a courtesy to those sites or magazines that you have taken your images from ... that is our main rule. You are responsible for getting permission for anything that you post at tFS no matter how you get it here ... hotlinked from their site, hotlinked from an image hosting site or copied and hosted in your own account.
for example I just uploaded this to imagevenue - which is a free image hosting service (with unlimited bandwidth) that these sites, as well as many on tfs, use. It doesn't allow hotlinking of HQs, only hotlinking of thumbnails that then link to the original image or HQ.

Imagine if there was a tFS rule that no other site can copy this thumbnail - that would just be a little extreme, no?
I think unless imagevenue tell us not to use it, since it's their property then that's when people should not do it.
Hmm, I've always wondered if hotlinking slowed down the servers...
For example, if a picture is hotlinked at many different websites, the longer it will take to load, making the page crash because the pictures are taking too long to load...
is this possible?
yes but in this case celebutopia hosts their pictures on imagevenue which is NOT hotlinking. it's a picture hosting website like imageshack or tinypic with unlimited bandwidth.
I don't consider this hotlinking either...
This may come as silly, but the people who took the time to upload a gazillion of images on imagevenue or some other hosting site, may be bothered with the fact that other people just copy & paste these images somewhere else. So, that's why we always asked, out of respect, to save the pictures and re-upload them. It's sort of a pain, so if you're too lazy, instead of saving the whole set of pictures, you can save some. There may be like 20 pictures, but most of them are pretty similar anyways
Some of you may know me from Celebutopia.net. I came across this post while searching Google for my site. It kind of got me a little upset because I never authorized anyone to pm anyone about posting images from CU. CU, among other sites, is here for the sole purpose of sharing images with EVERYONE. We do not have any issue with people posting images that come from our site at all. Please do not think that I am claiming images as mine or as the sites, I am not. That message must have been sent in error. I am sorry that this has caused such a stir.
Welcome to tFS, DefiantRican! And thank you so much for clearing up this misconception. Hope you stick around ... and hope to see you participating on the boards.
To the members ... we have been able to confirm that this member is from Celebutopia ... just so you know you are getting it from the right source.
Thank you for clearing that up for me as well and verifying that I am the owner of Celebutopia. I will be around here quite often as I am always online. However, my site does take up a lot of my time. I will do the best I can to be here and be an active member of this community. If there is anything that I can do for you please let me know. THanks!
