Posting Pictures Without using tFS Attachments, Linking to Hosting Sites & Hotlinking

I was just wondering how some members managed to post pictures from websites like gettyimages.com or style.com that show up full sized instead of being attached images that show up in tiny boxes.

Because from what I know I must use the IMG tags and put the link where the picture is.... But those websites don't have pages that ONLY contain the pic? So how are you supposed to do that?

I click on the rigth mousetab. and then a menu pops up. then I click at the buttom of the choices. Then You just have to copy the addresse.

I was a bit hard to explain, and my english isn't that good.

Try to always use your own hosting. Don't copy/paste the address of the photo and post that with img tags because then you'll be using that website's bandwidth. Just right click and save and then upload it to photobucket or imageshack.us. I use those frequently. They're both extremely user friendly.

I've tried posting images I host myself, and the image never shows up -- just the IMG tag with the web address. Why is this?

Tinetush copying the address means that you are using another sites bandwidth...making you a "bandwidth-bandit". Sometimes when sites discover this they change the address so your picture wont post. Under all circumstances it's bad to do because it might discourages sites from posting images that you might want in the future.

edit: opps should have read on..brie explained it !

Nice explanations Brie and Hanne, you're right about Bandwith - some websites don't like people directly linking (or 'hotlinking) from the server, so I would suggest you get a Photobucket, or Imageshack account.

If you do want to directly link though, right click on the image, scroll down to 'Properties' and copy the link that comes up. That link should work within the [ img ] tags.

Gettyimages is a different story though....sometimes when you directly copy the adress from getty, some member cannot see the pics. So with getty it's always important to save it to you puter and post it as a photobucket or whatever, or as an attachment.

thanks for complying with the smilie rule angelgaby...

please take some time to look through the announcements section of tfs and familiarize yourself with posting guidelines...this is a very friendly place...i know you'll like it here...

if you look under manage attachments...it will list all the types of files that will work...

Hi angelgaby,

I just want to direct your attention to this thread : http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums...ad.php?t=19543

It explains - visually - how you attach pictures.

When you attach pictures and do a preview of your post the picture will NEVER show..but regardless of that the picture (given it's the right type of image) WILL be in your post if you did upload it correctly. Hope that helps
