^I noticed that too. It makes it so hard to find certain things now because you have to rummage through a million things.

I see the searchfunction has changed again...moved to the bottom of the page when you click on Search This Forum/Thread...but when I type in something and press Go or Advanced Search, I get redirected to the forums mainpage. Which means I am not able to use the search function. Can this be fixed?

The search function doesn't work for me, either. Not only that, I can't send a PM, reply to a thread, or view an attached photo at the moment. Does this have something to do with server being moved?

Say i search Moss, it comes up with threads called Simple pleasures, kate beckinsale, balenciaga ..etc millions of threads that must have moss mentioned in im guessing.

I just figured that would be wrong, no? I thought it was a word search of thread titles, otherwise both options are just seaches of posts.

You are correct. Unless you go to Advanced Search and select "Seach Thread Titles" ... it automatically searches all word in both posts and in titles so you end up with everything that has that word in it. It's way too much information. An advanced search for thread titles is usually the most accurate and helps you find threads about your subject. You can narrow it down further by selecting only one forum ... rather than seaching every forum here.

How do I Search for Posts ... in a Mega Thread?

I've noticed that in some forums, there are 'mega' threads, which one is supposed to post into if a question falls into a particular category.

The problem is... how do you know if someone answers your question 20 pages later? Some of these threads have thousands of posts and it's just impractical to read through so many posts hoping that someone answered.

Specifically I had a question about model agencies in Stockholm, but it was moved into a giant 'agency' thread so I'll never know if I get an answer!

There must be a better way.

I have found that usually if a question is not answered within 1 or 2 days, it will not get answered at all ... whether or not it's in it's own thread. The number of threads in most of our forums is so great, that anything that is not active falls to the second or 3rd page within a day or two anyway and then it's likely to be forgotton.

The advanced search works very well for most things and might help you with this. So for your question ... I'd specify the forum you posted in, put in words like "Stockholm" and "agencies" and search by and ask for results by posts ... you may also limit the age of the posts, so it doesn't have to search back too far. If someone answered your question, it will probably come up. Or you can try this way of searching: go directly to the thread where your question is answered and then "search this thread " (see link at the top of the thread, next to thread tools) ... that will narrow it down to just the one thread.

And if it is a response to a post you made and you just want to find where you posted it, you can also try by going to your own profile from your UserName or Avatar, and select Find all posts by "YourName" ... and that will bring up you posts, the last ones first.

The reason we have mega threads is to make things more available to people who are searching for lots of information on a single topic ... it works better for the search function here. We are often used as a resource for students and professionals in the biz ... and we want to make things easy to access for people doing research. If we started a new topic for every question the search results would yeild way too many threads ... and the information would be scattered all over the place.

Searching for Something? ... How to Narrow Down Search Results at tFS

^i think that tfs's search funtion is not working at all! It so much easier to go google and try to search that way, if you try to find some specific thread. What a pity, I remembered that earlier it worked much better and you actually found answers. Nowadays you have too many results.

Hmmm ... that's interesting that you are having a problem.

I use the search function everyday when moderating, and I've encountered no problems whatsoever.... other than trying to search by initials, like in this instance. It will not recognize initial or three letter words.

However, tFS has grown so huge and we have added so many new threads in the last few years, that a simple search will produce way too many results.

So, to limit the results to something manageable, always use the advanced seach option, select Search Tread Titles Only (we try to keep thread titles consistant so they can be searched easily) and select Show Results as: Threads. You may also limit it more by selecting the specific forum that you wish to search in. That will usually result in anywhere from about 3 to 15 resluts ... listed as threads. Then if you are looking for something specific within that thread, there is a "search this thread too" option, once you have opened the thread ... in the black bar ... which will limit the search to that thread only. Works pretty well, I'd say.
