Well, Wyatt the Pintuck Man has got me inspired. Wyatt and his nifty tee-shirts and that bum Miuccia Prada and her Ripoff Robots. I'm working on a series of little found-art keychains, necklaces, earrings, and pen-pals that I was thinking to sell, plus my usual sporadic production of hats.
So here's my idea. There are a lot of creative craftspeople here on tFS. Luna makes awesome handbags, there's a new girl, I think called Gail who does beaded necklaces, I sew and do other crafty crap, and I know there are plenty of other creative types around here.
Wouldn't it be awesome if we had our own auction site, affiliated with tFS, where we could market our goods within the community, and say a proceed of each sale went toward the maintainence of tFS's servers, etc? Another board I frequent does similar, and it has been a great success. Board members can pimp their creative wares, the board gets some much needed income, and a lot of users treat the auction site as a first-stop shop-at-home gift source. They have holiday auctions, spring and fall craft fairs, and other themed promotions from time to time, and everyone seems to really enjoy and benefit from it.
So, there's my idea, and Andy, if you want, I can put you in touch with the woman who runs the other board I frequent which has its own auction site, and she could fill you in on how she does it.
I too think this is a fantastic idea. I know acid has mentioned it to me before too. I definitely think it could be successful, and there are some really talented people here who could contribute if they were willing. it would be a great place for up-and-comers to get a little extra exposure. also, the marketplace could feature consigned/second-hand clothes and vintage one-offs.
but yes, I'm glad you brought this up ayli. it's a good idea.
Great idea! We will convert to new forum software and there is an auction component available already! I'll post more about when we will convert soon. I might even go for it this weekend!

WONDERFUL idea... but remember, there have to be measures against those people that like to flood auction sites and message boards with counterfeits. perhaps you'd have to have 250 posts or so to use the auction feature?
