I think you need to be diplomatic and I think sometimes you have to realise in relation to what Francesca said (about standing up for things) is that your not going to be the most popular person at times
Seriously though - enough common sense to know when rules can be broken.
Could you post an example of when it's OK to do this?

There are all sorts of situations where rules needn't be taken literally.
For example, if someone posted a single off-topic comment in a long post you wouldn't say, 'Oh my God, person X, I am going to ban you for such heinous off-topicness'.

I think a good mod needs to recognise when action should be taken. He or she should be very capable to get into discussion when necesary, in relation to those actions. He or she should take evrything serious that other members say or comment about something/someone. They need to have a good sense for order. And as said before, not bias everything or draw conclusions about someone or something to fast.
In relation to tFS, I think that a good mod should know what's going on in fashion and should have some good fashion knowledge too. It is the key to tFS, so. He or she must have quality in his or her posts, of course. I also think that a mod should be someone who is not afraid to state his or her opinion and also knows how to discuss thing, in relation to tFS.
And above all, he or she must be helfull and friendly at any times.
This brings up a good point. I will be the first to admit that when I first joined I didn't know a whole lot about the fashion end of this forum. I have learned a lot since I joined TFS and I am always willing to contribute when I find an item that might be of interest. We do have some mods who know pretty much all there is to know about fashion. How important is it to members that all mods have this knowledge?

For members, not at all, for mods, a lot. I too, didn't know diddlysquad when I came here. All I knew, well, Dior and Galliano... now I just know so friggin' much because of tFS. I am not saying that mods should know everything, but at least something. I think that in terms of quality on tFS, knowledge of fashion is something that contributes to that. It gives you more opportunities to post more and more posts related to fashion with a good quality. We are talking a fashion forum, after all.
So why is it important for the mods to know something about fashion? Because then they know what they are talking about and and above all, dealing with. They could do without perhaps, but it contributes to their contribution to tFS.

A mod should be: Friendly, impartial, helpful, non-judgmental, fair, contributing in a positive way.
A mod should not be: Rude, holier-than-thou, immature, on a power trip, hypocritical, constantly negative, disrespectful.
I think the vast majority of mods at tFS are doing a great job. I would say 99% of the time mods contribute in a positive way. That said, I have noticed, from time to time, mods ripping into members for seemingly marginal "infractions." Moreover, certain mods seem to contribute only piss and vinegar to the forum. Personally, I think if a mod has an issue with a post, they should respond without attitude. Mods need to remember that they are the litmus test for appropriate behavior. They should be role models for proper participation. All and all, though, I think the mods here do a wonderful job handling the difficult task of moderating this huge forum. Mods: Thank you for all you do
