The best skin care products for African American skin...

Hello,
I am african american..my complexion is exactly like Kelly Rowland's (Destiny Child;just in case you don't know) and I have a problem with my skin, I think that it looks dull. My skin is not ashy but it doesn't glow like the celebrities so I was just wondering if anyone knew of any products that can give me that affect of glowing skin.

Thanx

So do you just have dry skin?
There's great suggestions all over the board. What type of things do you do for your skin now?

I'm not Black, so I cannot tell you if it will work for you or not, but I have a book written by doctors that recommends the best products for non-White skin (Black, Asian, Indian, Middle-Eastern, etc.). What kind of product are you looking for exactly? Something just for your face, or something for both your face and your body?

The book is called Beautiful Skin of Color: A Comprehensive Guide to Asian, Olive and Dark Skin by Jeanine Downie, Fran Cook-Bolden, etc.

I thought I could look through, see what products were recommended and type them up for you, but I just realised I have already packed the book (moving in two weeks)! Sorry!

Most Black skin care products are for making skin lighter not brighter so unsure what to tell you. Use a scrub to get rid of the dead skin, use a non drying cleasner (which could be part of your problem- your cleanser is too drying) and use a good moisturizer. Aveeno has great soy based cleansing products and a light bronzer can give a nice sun kissed effect- maybe someone at the MAC counter has a suggestion.

Sometimes Essence magazine has good beauty product tips- maybe flipping through the April- July issues for tips of summer skin products.

Hope this helps

Neostrata has good products for giving your skin a brighter look. Not lighter, brighter! Anyway, their daily moisturizers have glycolic acid (4%-10%) and it exfoliates and smoothes out your skin over time. The results are beautiful and they work for EVERY type of skin.

Try Asian products like Shu Uemura. You should also try La Roche Posay (A french product)

I am a black woman, caramel complexion with combo skin. I try to find "good" products regardless of if they are for "us". Right now I have been using Garnier Nutrionist line. Love it!! my skin looks and feels amazing. try it...........

It doesn't matter what skin colour you have or what your ethnical
background is. It comes down to what skintype you have.

Is your skin oily/dry/combination/normal?
Is your skin prone to acne/clogging/blackhead/whiteheads?
Is your skin resistent/sensitive?

After knowing your skintype, it will be easier to recommend you
what products you need.

If you're not sure, please have a look at the following thread:
http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums...e-etc-377.html

Hope that helps somewhat
