Just wanted to start a little discussion topic. I should think that most ppl who love fashion also love shopping BUT are there those out there who simply love fashion as an artform but loathe the consumerism of fashion?? Some just dislike shopping as a pastime altogether. Are the two inextricably linked? Discuss!
i absolutely LOVE shopping. Although I prefer to do it not at peak times, because weekend busyness just stresses me out. I do quite a lot of my shopping online now aswell

Good question. Love fashion, not wild about consumerism, enjoy shopping, but not as much as some here Somehow shopping for clothes is different for me than say, antiquing. I find antiquing non-stressful (and stress-relieving) because almost by definition it usually has to be a bit non-focused. Sure, you may have a wish list in the back of your head, but in a certain way you have to take or leave what you find. The situation's a bit different with antique malls ... I can run to one that's 5 minutes from my house intending to buy a pink depression glass platter and come back with one. Had I specified the pattern, though, I could probably forget it. But in general you can just kind of float ...
When I'm shopping for clothes or accessories, I know what I want. Ideally I have checked out the catalogs and looked online so I have a pretty good idea already of what I want to look at--that makes everything go much more smoothly. I guess I am not very patient with the whole process of trying on. I'm a big reader and I can read fashion magazines forever. When I'm in the mood there aren't enough magazines printed to keep me supplied. But yeah, physically shopping for clothes I do not really enjoy most of the time. I guess part of it depends on the store. I guess one nice thing about antiquing is no one's bothering you. Sometimes a store owner is friendly and wants to chat, but there really aren't hovering SAs. You can look & think & get into your zen shopping zone. This really is making me think about how poor most fashion shopping experiences are ... cold dressing rooms, flourescent lighting, marginal SAs ... no wonder I don't like it

I'm not talking about me personally coz I love shopping as well. But I hate that kind of rushed, chaotic kind of shopping where everyone is grabbing at stuff. Topshop on Oxford Street can sometimes be a bit too much for me. Though I can't live without H&M and Topshop (budgets being limited et all), sometimes I do think that the clothes aren't really made with love and I am just being sucked into the big consumer vat of fashion.
I love going to small quiet boutiques and just browsing with some nice music in the b/g. Or if it has to be really noisy, then markets are also really atmospheric and interesting.
Hmmm....maybe I'm really feeling my age (all of my 21 years). Don't have that teenybopping energy anymore.....
And like I said, some people love fashion as an artform and admire from a purely aesthetic point of view and don't feel the need to consume it. Just wanted to see if there were such people out there.

I love fashion but I find shopping tedious. Mainly for two reasons;
1. I have a very bijou budget
2. I live miles away from any decent shopping
I am however, going to London at the end of the month for two days. I'm hoping to get a chance to browse around at least a few good shops. Whether or not I can afford to do more than look is another question.

I don't know, you just may have me pinned. Actual shopping, as in brick-and-mortar style, is rather tedious to me. I try to do it with my girlfriends without getting impatient, but I simply can't anymore. Maybe it always feels like I'm pressed for time...

I know what you mean it is the same with me! I love shopping an ddon't see why anyone else wouldn't, mabey I am being ignorant then I apologise, nut I just can't seem to understand.
I love clothes and fashion, but I hate shopping, because every shop is full of the same stuff that everyone wears, the best pieces are just too expensive and I don't know...I just don't find anything and get frustrated.I also hate going shopping because there is so many stylish people, and I'm just always in a black tee and jeans, never finding anything or actually knowing what I want . I always feel like I'm "trying to be something I'm not and then I'll look ridiculous" in every store I go to.but that's actually how I normally think about myself, but when I'm shopping that feeling becomes much,much more stronger.I just hate shopping.I maybe wouldn't, if I'd knew how to dress.
hate to shop, unless it's at my favorite thrift or vintage store, and then it's more treasure hunting. i guess i hate to spend money without feeling i get an experience back like good food and wine w/ friends or a trip.
