Which shopping sites have the best (or the worst) pictures

who do you think does a good job of showing the clothes and who can do better....

post your opinions here!...

*personally...
i think that Saks Fifth Ave is having a really bad season..
all the pics look really bad and i can barely look at the site because the hair and make up are so awful that they just make the whole thing look really bad...

shopbop.com always does a wonderful job...the photos a re good quality, the clothes fit the models well and they show many different shots and angles, which can be helpful

i find revolveclothing.com to have terrible photos: awful quality, odd angles and clothes that don't fit the models at all

but the best by far is net-a-porter.com. perfect, in pretty much every way

Yoox must be the worst for pictures.
The male model's poses, the mannequins without any arms, the dreary gray background. Everything about it is off.

hey this is a cool idea for a thread...

i notice the photography/styling of the items so much...it can really turn you off....or, on the contrary, seduce you to the point where you end up buying something that doesnt even work that well in your wardrobe just because it looked so lovely on the site...

i love impulse seattle...particularly their styling...it's gorgeous...i love the way the clothes on the model look like they're really being worn by a girl walking down the street...and the way they always make sure to photograph the pieces at different angles

impulse

i like oaknyc's presentation too...it's minimalist but they've started experimenting with the models and their poses....and i like the way you can get a feel for the movement of the clothes too

oaknyc

Net-a-porter hands down has the best pictures.

i don't like net a porter pictures... i don't think that those mannequins show the outfits in a proper way.
My favorites are Eluxury and Shopbop

Most of what I wanted to say has been said. NAP, by far the best. good lighting, multiple angle, and some styling. Ultimately I can see the garment and the way it fits

Yoox, for me is the worst. I can't even see what's going on in most of the photos. Their photos always turn me off.

I agree shopbop is good. I like Barney's as well oddly enough even though they don't have that many pics. It's just simple though with good lighting.

I'm going to say Steve Madden has the best and worst pics. Best because they were stolen CL pictures. And worst because...well...they were stolen CL pictures!

For a real answer, I have to agree with others about NAP being great. Love the lighting and multiple angles. (Also love that I can go by color, esp for shoes, but that doesn't really go with the topic.)

I don't like American Apparel's look, because it's a lot of unflattering looks, greasy hair and nipples. It doesn't make me want the clothes or even trust their cleanliness.

good thread subject!

Among department store sites, I find Neiman Marcus and Saks to be bad, but Bloomingdales is definitely worse. The absolute worst is La Redoute...

I agree that Shopbop and NAP have good photos on their websites.

anastasia has really great pictures but not enough
matchesfashion has great pictures (better than netaporter, esp. noticeable when they have the same stuff) but their descriptions are truly lacking.

netaporter just redid their format and i'm not sure i like it as much but they've got the zooming function which is an improvement. some hideous styling on there though

i hate it when they have things but don't show the proportions by putting it on a mannequin. browns is an offender. Aloharag really needs to put their all their clothes on mannequins.

i hate it when belts or bags are just photographed without anything to compare them to.

barneys is not good enough. ugh, the shots are unflattering, and so minimal. if i want something shipped, it's going to cost a lot because of my location and i'll get taxed above a certain limit so i don't want to have to return and lose some money. I need as much information as possible straight up.

i think luisaviaroma is pretty good all round but needs more angles sometimes. sometimes the styling gets in the way of me seeing the product i want to see. e.g. putting a white vest on a white shirt or layering a piece with the product i'm looking at and unlike nap, they won't have a photograph of the piece on it's own.. sometimes it's hard to see the piece on its own...

adore - I agree with you on Impulse. I can't say that I love all of their styling, but a lot of outfits are very cute and I like most of the models they use.

I have to say I don't really like shopbop.com ... mostly because their models are unappealing to me.

I can't stand when the styling is bad... I'd prefer they left the item on it's own rather than styling it in a horrific way

i like the pictures on jcrew.com...
they shoot things from different angles (great for jackets and jeans/pants), and you can change the color of tops...

i echo the praise of net-a-porter...on a person and off are very nice...
and for handbags, i like bluefly...
they show it on a person, so you can get an idea of the scale...

right now, i'm not liking eluxury (actually, i'm not a fan of the site redesign), saks, or barneys...
come to think of it, i don't think any of the u.s. department stores get it right (neimans, saks, barneys, etc.), which is a shame because if you're going to spend that kind of money, the clothing and styling should be shot well...

netaporter is by far the best. they found an all round formula that works. simple. (the new version is not as good though)

yoox is possibly the worst it could ever get. like a bazaar i never know where to start looking.
