I dont know if this is a trend, but for the post 2-3 seasons, ive been seeing
alot of women opting for tough shoes (ala Givenchy) to wear with their dresses,skirts,pants...instead of the girly, thin shoe....during this fashion week and last, almost everyone is wearing some sort of chunky shoe either black, brown or beige with their dresses....anyone else notice this?

I like it..maybe i liked it before when not everyone was doing it...its a nice mix..i dont know if its a trend...kind of like motorcycle jackets with dresses...which i dont think is a trend , more of a way of dressing....ive also noticed blazers over dresses...
I guess its the whole masculin/feminin trend..

Yeah, as you said, people have been doing this for awhile and the leather jacket/dress thing is a good comparison. For me, it's about juxtaposing certain looks/ideas with other. Something hyperfeminine with something very hard and rough. Because initially it's surprising or unexpected, though so many people do it now, it's less so, but it's still very chic if done well.
great thread UNIQ...i agree that this is everywhere lately...
i feel like i started to see it happening a lot during fashion week when editors were pairing aggressive shoes with more delicate dresses, skirts etc... i'll have to dig out some pics... i think it's a really great combination...

I love it...The clash of the two is interesting to the eye.
Though I personally feel a bit too old trying to do it, so I won't be doing it like ever.... but I have seen some of the younger gals pull it off pretty well.
generally i love it. of course some people can't pull it off, or wear awful shoes for the occasion...but in particular i love riding boots with a ton of my dresses. it's great for fall especially.
i been doing this for quite sometimes now. i wore pencil skirt and short combat boots a lot last year. but i guess more and more people are doing this.
i dont like doc martins at all. it's too chunky and overrated. i like rough boots/shoes cause having to walk a lot around the city, it's more comfortable. pretty delicate shoes will just kill my feet.
this makes me think of this editorial with stella tennat from V magazine from a year or two ago. it had stella in rough punk attire with girly frocks.

I love the look, I always have adhered to it really, I hate dainty shoes, but I'm not the kind of girl that could wear anything that could be called 'strappy'...thank god. Docs and dresses is just basically the early nineties all over again anyway, nothing new, but certainly comfy.
I LOVE this look. It's one I like doing. I've got this floaty emroidered black chiffon 30's dress & love wearing with my biker boots. I like lots of pretty stuff, but I'm not really a feminine girly type, so doing it this way works for me
